Our Classroom Promise

A classroom is it's own mini-society!  In order for things to run smoothly and to use our learning time to its full advantage, our classroom will follow a consistent schedule with consistent expectations. We will start our day with a morning meeting and end with time to reflect about our learning for the day.

Morning Meeting:
  • greeting
  • attendance
  • editing a daily letter to the class
  • review daily schedule and announcements
End of Day Reflection
  • time to share important learning from the day (recorded in a newsletter for families)
  • sharing the best parts of the day
Daily Schedule:
A more detailed copy of our daily schedule can be found in your child's home-to- school folder.  Our day will include the following blocks:
Literacy Intervention
Reading Workshop
Writing Workshop
Read Aloud

Math Workshop
P.E/Music
Word Study

Attention Signals:
Our class worked together to decide on a signal teachers would use to get their attention quickly.  They chose the word "popcorn", along with the action of putting their hands on their elbows.  Other signals that will be used include
  • rhythm clapping
  • "Come back together", response "OK!"
Classroom Rules:
During the first couple of weeks of school, students will be working together to create our classroom rules.  We will engage in a variety of activities to build these rules as well as review Broadway's Bear Necessities: be safe, be caring, be honest, be a learner.  Once we have completed our rules, we will make sure you have a copy of them as well as posting them here.

*If students are having trouble following the established rules and expectations, they will be given two warnings before owing recess time or receiving another logical consequence. If the problem continues, I will contact home so that we can work together.

Drinks and Bathrooms:
Students are welcome to get drinks and use the bathroom as needed throughout the day.  I do ask that they not get drinks or use the bathroom during a direct instruction time unless it is an emergency.

Snacks
We will have a time for snack at approximately 10:20 each morning.  Some kids need this mid-morning pick me up, and some don't.  Please use your own judgement about whether or not your kiddo will need a morning snack.  Quick, healthy snacks are greatly appreciated.
